Apple computers is the planning stage of a video industry revolution. Remember the U2 iPod? Launched with the full U2 library, this combination was perhaps the first big blow dealt from Apple to the music industry, giving us a hint of what’s up their creative sleeve. In April, they announced to the National Association of Broadcasting that they plan to move ahead with ‘Lights Camera [Apple Logo]’, a new division to allow home movie rentals online. Using the same idea as the iTunes store, where you can currently download artists from the Top 40 all the way to small independent artists, you will soon be able to download box office hits, and festival films alike. They are currently working out the details of deals with major distros like Disney and Paramountm, to host their movies online and rent them on demand at $2.99(USD) for 30 days. Transfer to a friend, end your licensing… whatever, you’re done with it after that. If Blockbuster was already struggling financially, imagine how appealing no late fees sounds from a company that can deliver on that promise.
